Town Hall Meeting of Rep. Bill Flores on April 9th
Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan, will host a town hall meeting in Bryan on April 9.
During the one-hour meeting at Rudder High School, Flores will update constituents on his work in Washington, D.C., listen to concerns and answer questions.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the school’s Margaret Rudder Auditorium at 3251 Austin’s Colony Parkway.
Flores will also hold a meeting in Waco on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Texas State Technical College and a telephone meeting on April 8 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call information will be available before the event.
BVCIL is able to provide transportation to individuals who would like to participate but unable to attend due to lack of accessible transportation. Please spread the word to those you serve, or individuals with whom you work (or yourself) that they are welcome to call BVCIL 979-776-5505 to RSVP prior to the event; we need their name, address, and phone number so we can call back for particulars on the request and provide a pick-up time. The driver will be a BVCIL employee in our accessible van and/or bus. There is no charge for this service on April 9th.
Video-on-Demand Children’s TV Programming Now Accessible for Thousands of Students with Visual or Hearing Disabilities
The U.S. Department of Education today announced the availability of free, video-on-demand children’s television programming for thousands of students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing.
Dozens of children’s and family TV episodes may now be viewed online featuring closed captioning and descriptions through the Education Department’s Accessible Television Portal project. Among the shows: “Ocean Mysteries,” “Magic School Bus,” “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” “Expedition Wild” and “Peg + Cat.” ….

Public Transportation Access Survey
The Transportation Works: Assess and Deliver team is traveling across Texas to collect data about access to public transportation for people with disabilities living in rural and small urban areas. The primary goal of the project is to develop a statewide overview of accessible transportation options for people with disabilities living in rural and small urban areas, with a focus on how consumers use public transportation for school- and employment-related purposes.
Your participation is vital to the success of this program! Please help us by taking our anonymous online transportation consumer survey. Those who complete the survey can enter an optional drawing to win a $500 gift card!

- Yet they make as little as $7.86/hour, with no sick leave, paid vacation, or health insurance.
- Refer to nearest Dairy Queen or Pizza Hut bearing a sign that says, “HIRING. $15 PER HOUR.”
- The inevitable shortage of attendants creates considerable difficulty.
- Increase would improve reliability and service –
- Which in turn will mean better health, less acute care, fewer ER visits, and of course unnecessary institutionalizations
