Insightful Connections (IC) is a recognized student organization at Texas A&M University that provides opportunities for visually impaired and sighted individuals to participate in service activities, to advocate for accessibility and to educate the campus community.

The group is interested in gathering feedback from other students and community members – both with and without visual impairments – about their potential interest in participating in IC activities and initiatives for the upcoming academic year. The group also welcomes suggestions for potential future initiatives and activities.

If you have a visual impairment or might be interested in connecting with people with visual impairments around the local community, we request your participation in this short interest survey.   Feel free to share this survey with others as you see appropriate.  The group will be collecting feedback throughout the summer from current and incoming community members.

The group’s first meeting for the Fall 2017 semester is currently planned for Monday, September 4th at 5:30pm, location TBA.

The Kristofer Robinson Scholarship of Communities Foundation of Texas for paraplegic and quadriplegic students who are residents in the state of Texas will deadline on May 1, 2017. The application and more information is available at the following website:

Kristofer Robinson Scholarship Fund

Scholarships awarded to paraplegic and quadriplegic students who are residents of the State of Texas. Assistance is provided for tuition, books, and necessary appliances related to the particular needs of the student to pursue an education at any accredited school in the State of Texas, whether public or private, including elementary school, junior high school, high school, technical school, college or university and graduate school. This is a renewable scholarship.

Elaine Chapin Scholarship

Brief Summary: Supports the postsecondary education of students affected by multiple sclerosis, either directly or as a family member

Deadline: April 30, 2017

Eligibility:

·         Applicant must be a citizen of the United States who plans to enroll or is enrolled in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational, or technical school in the U.S. 

·         Applicants must also be enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours per semester in course work leading to a degree, license, or certificate.

 

Amount: $1,000

Phoenix Society for Burn Victims Education Grant

Brief Summary:  The society provides scholarships to burn survivors who are attending college or a technical school.

Deadline: June 30, 2017

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

·         Be a burn survivor

·         Be a high school senior, earned a GED, or currently be enrolled in a college,university, or trade school

·         Demonstrate academic achievement as shown by grades and scores on standardized tests or ability in a trade or craft

·         Must have applied and been accepted to an accredited 2-year College, 4-year College (University), Trade/Vocational School, or Graduate School within the United States

·         Model exemplary behavior as a recipient of a PEG Scholarship

 

Amount: $500 minimum
